This page is maintained by Builder Society and describes how we handle personal information. It is not a certification or an independent audit.
Who we are
Builder Society is a membership platform that pairs experienced technology professionals with operators to build and run new companies. This policy covers the Builder Society website and the member application.
Information we collect
- Account information. Email address and authentication details needed to sign you in, handled by our authentication provider.
- Profile information. Name, headline, biography, location, links, skills, experience, and any photo you upload.
- Application information. Details you submit when applying to join, including your thesis, skills, and links.
- Workspace content. Ventures, documents, decks, messages, standups, and other material you create inside the product.
- Professional contact records. Business contact details about senior professionals sourced from third-party business-data providers, used only to evaluate and extend membership invitations.
- Operational logs. Technical records such as error reports and request metadata used to keep the service running.
How we use information
- Operate your account and the features you use.
- Match members with each other, with ventures, and with open roles.
- Review membership applications.
- Send service messages, invitations, and notifications you have opted into.
- Process payments for membership through our payment processor.
- Diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and improve the product.
We do not sell personal information.
AI features
Several features generate drafts, summaries, or recommendations using AI models. When you use those features, the content you supply is sent to the model provider to produce a response. Do not put information into those features that you are not permitted to share.
Service providers
We rely on third parties to run the service, including our hosting and database provider, our authentication provider, our payment processor, our email delivery provider, our AI model providers, and business-data providers used for sourcing professional contacts. Each receives only the information needed to perform its function.
How information is protected
Access to member data is enforced at the database level, so records are readable only by the accounts entitled to see them. Uploaded files live in private storage and are served through short-lived links generated on the server. Administrative credentials are held server-side only and are never delivered to the browser.
No online service can promise perfect security. We describe the controls we operate, not a guarantee against every possible incident.
Retention and deletion
We keep account and profile information for as long as your account is active. Sourced professional contact records are kept while a potential invitation remains relevant, and are suppressed on request. You can ask us to delete your account and associated content, and we will do so except where we must retain records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention reasons.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can edit most profile information directly in the product. For anything else, or to be removed from all outreach, contact us through the site and we will action the request.
Cookies
We use only the storage necessary to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences. We do not currently run advertising or third-party analytics trackers. If that changes, we will update this page and ask for consent where required.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change, and the revision date above will change with it.
