Business plan

Business plan — Builder Society

Build your AI-proof future. We turn technologist employees into solo-entrepreneurs.

Overview

A career mitigation and diversification framework for technical professionals whose roles are being automated by AI, transitioning them from employees to solo-entrepreneurs using an AI-human hybrid support model.

Problem & customer

Problem. AI automation is making traditional IT and coding roles redundant, leaving pros without a career backup or the skills to transition into entrepreneurship. Customer. Junior to Senior Software Engineers, QA testers, and Tier 1 Tech Support at large organizations facing AI displacement.

Solution & wedge

Solution. A platform combining private community, specialized AI-agent builders, and structured playbooks to help engineers launch "Micro-SaaS" or "Service-as-Software" companies in < 90 days. Wedge. A free "AI Displacement Risk Audit" tool for developers that captures leads and identifies specific skills they can tokenize into a new venture.

Market & competitors

Market. The $10B+ vocational training and professional coaching market, specifically targeting the "displaced tech talent" segment. Competitors. Traditional coding bootcamps (too technical), General MBA programs (too slow/expensive), and Indie Hackers (too unguided).

Business model & pricing

Model. $199/month membership for access to the platform, AI building tools, and peer cohorts. Alternative. A $2,500 "Zero-to-Launch" intensive 12-week program.

Go-to-market

Channels.

  1. Substack/LinkedIn content focusing on the "Death of the Junior Dev."
  2. Partnerships with layoff-tracking sites (e.g., Layoffs.fyi) to offer pivot resources.
  3. Direct outreach to dev tool alumni networks.

North-star metric & inputs

North-star. Revenue from successful ventures launched — target $5,000/month from 1-2 launched ventures. Input metrics:

  • Active builder cohorts: 3-5 active cohorts in 90 days.
  • Weekly builder engagement rate: 70% weekly task completion.
  • Ventures reaching MVP: 2 MVPs in 90 days.

Risks & assumptions

  • Risk. User drop-off due to fear or "job hunting" distraction.
  • Assumption. Engineers are willing to pay for a "path" rather than just a "tool."
  • Mitigation. Paid entry creates a "sunk cost" commitment that increases graduation rates.

Roadmap

  • Phase 1 (Month 1). Launch "AI Risk Audit" wedge tool + open waitlist.
  • Phase 2 (Month 2). Kick off Alpha cohort (10 builders) manually.
  • Phase 3 (Month 3). Launch V1 membership platform with automated playbooks.

Thesis

A career mitigation and diversification framework for technical professionals whose roles are being automated by AI, transitioning them from employees to solo-entrepreneurs using an AI-human hybrid support model.

Wedge

Free AI Displacement Risk Audit that captures leads and identifies tokenizable skills.

Target customer

Junior to Senior Software Engineers, QA testers, and Tier 1 Tech Support facing AI displacement.

24-month financial model

The business model operates as a prosumer/B2B SaaS subscription via a $199/month membership mapped out in the business plan context. We assumed an 80% gross margin typical for software platforms. A churn constraint of 5% reflects a prosumer/entrepreneur customer base which is heavier than B2B enterprise SaaS (usually 1-3%) due to individuals quitting early (business fear/failure).

Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) is anchored at $400, fueled by high-value inbound channels—such as partnerships with Layoffs.fyi and the 'free AI Displacement Risk Audit tool' mentioned in the wedge. This results in an excellent LTV:CAC ratio of nearly 8.0, given the LTV of approximately ~$3,180.

We modeled starting cash based on a $1.2M pre-seed SAFE to provide sufficient runway given the ambitious cohort sizes. Initial OpEx starts at $50k/month focusing heavily on the founders and initial LLM capabilities. OpEx strategically scales, jumping alongside the customer base, ensuring that the platform has enough human capital to deliver on the "AI-human hybrid support model" promise. The model successfully achieves cash-flow positivity by Month 9, preserving a minimum remaining cash balance of >$990k ensuring 24+ months of runway and an expansive cushion to accelerate scaling or explore the alternative 12-week $2,500 intensity program at a later stage.

AI is coming for your corporate career. Your expertise isn’t. Today I’m launching Builder Society: a framework with AI-human support that helps engineers, QA, and IT turn existing workflows into a solo business. Why now: traditional IT and coding roles are being automated. After 18 years building companies, I’ve seen the biggest barrier isn’t ideas, it’s the identity shift. We built a path that starts while you’re still on payroll. What it is: structured playbooks, specialized LLM agents, mentorship, and a private community. Start by assessing your automation exposure score, then package your first offer, message, and customer. Start with your automation exposure score.
